Recent Advances in Cosmology

Cosmology is one of the most active fields of astronomy. It inspires scientists in the neighboring fields as well as the general public. In the last decade, the discovery of cosmic acceleration (and thus the need for dark energy) fostered the attention of many scientists on this branch of astrophysics. Recent progress in studying the large-scale structure of the universe and the physics of the intergalactic medium is strongly driven by the advent of multi-object spectrographs on large aperture telescopes. Advances in cosmology in general will also build on wide-field imaging, as put in place in major upcoming surveys, as well as new space telescopes, covering the electromagnetic spectrum from radio to gamma-rays and more messengers.

In the International Year of Astronomy and with Planck having delivered first data by then, it is timely to hold a splinter meeting at the AG-Tagung on the recent progress and future perspectives in cosmology from observations, simulations and theory.

* The splinter meeting will be held on three days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
