Location and directions

Location

The Observatorium Hoher List is located in the mountain range called Eifel about 100 km SW of Bonn, Germany. Its altitude is 533 m, its geographical coordinates are 6°51' E and 50°09'48" N. The Observatory was built between 1952 and 1954 and extended in 1964/65. Today it has 6 domes (red circles in the following picture) housing the telescopes.

Directions

From Daun: Follow the traffic signs in the direction of Maare. Then take the L64 in the direction of the villages Schalkenmehren and Brockscheid. Don't turn off to Schalkenmehren, but turn left after 300 m in a car park opposite the hospital Altburg. Then follow the road to the observatory keeping left.

From the A48 Koblenz-Trier: Take the exit Mehren. Don't drive to Daun at the three-leg motorway interchange! Go to Mehren and take the first turnoff to Schalkenmehren. Drive through the village till a summit. There turn left in the direction of Brockscheid and after 300 m turn left in a car park opposite the hospital Altburg. Then follow the road to the observatory keeping left.
