Stellar Physics and Hydrodynamics

Kategorie: Bachelor Thesis, Master/Diploma Thesis, PhD

Several Ph.D. positions in stellar physics and hydrodynamics are available in
the research group led by Prof. Norbert Langer (see www.astro.uni-bonn.de/stars/). Related Bachelor, Master and Diploma theses are also offered.

The Argelander Institute of Astronomy of Bonn University currently hosts about 120 scientific staff members, postdocs, fellows and PhD students. It
constitutes, together with the neighboring Max-Planck Institut fuer Radioastronomie, one of the major astronomical centers in Germany. A large
fraction of foreign researchers and students implies that the working language
at the institute is English. The stellar physics group in Bonn has a strong
theory program and is actively involved in major ongoing observational surveys, as VLT FLAMES Tarantula Survey and the ESO Public Survey of the transient universe. Available projects span a spectrum of possibilities including research on stellar evolution, stellar nucleosynthesis, supernovae and gamma-ray bursts, and stellar and circumstellar hydrodynamics.

Applicants for our PhD positions are required to have a Master's or Diploma
Degree in physics, astronomy, or in a related field. Materials in support of an
application (including a brief Curriculum Vitae and a statement of research
interests) should be submitted electronically to uhamacher[at]astro.uni-bonn.de.
Two letters of recommendation should be sent directly to the above e-mail
address. Applications are welcome at any time and will continue to be accepted until all positions have been filled.

Interested students who wish to receive further information are welcome to contact Prof. Langer (see www.astro.uni-bonn.de/~nlanger/).
