Prof. Dr. Frank Bertoldi
Since 2004 Professor and head of the radioastronomy group at the Argelander Institute for Astronomy at the University of Bonn. Institute director from 2009 to 2012. PhD in Physics from U.C. Berkeley in 1989. My currrent research focuses on the formation of stars, galaxies, and massive black holes in the early Universe, and on a project to constrain structure formation and cosmological parameters (primordial density spectrum, dark energy) by means of a Sunyaev-Zel'dovich, X-ray and weak lensing observations of galaxy clusters. My lesser insterest cover molecular cloud structure, star formation, Kuiper belt objects, PDRs, shocks, and gamma-ray bursts.
Our submillimeter to radio astronomy group divides into a stellar formation and outflows group (Matthias Maercker, Felipe Alves, Marcelo de Lima Leal Ferreira, Andres Perez), the Sunyaev-Zeldovich Effect research group (Kaustuv Basu, Florian Pacaud, Martin Sommer, Matthias Klein, Aarti Nagarayan, Sandra Burkutean, Miriam Ramos Ceja), and the galaxies group (Marcus Albrecht, Vernesa Smolcic, Yujin Yang [from 10/2012], Benjamin Magnelli [from 10/2012], Sameera Salim, Elisa Carrillo, Felipe Navarrete). Doctoral student Sibylle Anderl works on the modeling and observation of shocks, staff scientist Reinhold Schaaf on astronomical tools and software. We host the German node of the European ALMA Regional Center (ARC), which is managed by postdoc Stefanie Mühle, contribute to the bolometer data analysis software package BoA, and we are partners in the COSMOS, NANTEN2, CCAT, eROSITA and EUCLID projects.
