H I-Velocity-Bridges in the Magellanic Stream

Christian Brüns, Peter Kalberla, and Ulrich Mebold

[Fig. 1]
Fig. 1. a) Column density of the integrated HVC gas (-400 km s-1 ... -200 km s-1); contourelines in the interval from 5.5·1018 cm-2 to 55·1018 cm-2 in 5.5·1018 cm-2 steps.
b) once again integrated intensity of the HVC gas, but contourelines from the integrated LVC gas (-25 km s-1 ... 25 km s-1) from 4.4·1020 cm-2 to 7.7·1020 cm-2 in steps of 0.16·1020 cm-2

[Fig. 2]
Fig. 2. Position-velocity-diagram showing two velocity bridges - one is associated with the cloud at v = -360 km s-1 and the other with the cloud at v = -325 km s-1. (The cloud with the maximum at -310 km s-1 seems to have a tail to higher velocities, but this is just an overlap with a cloud one degree away and not a velocity bridge!)
