Fig. 1. Lines of sight showing cool H I gas in the LMC are marked on the [C II] map of Mochizuki et al. (1994, angular resolution of 12'). ISO has been used with a resolution of 1.65' to search for [C II] emission in direction of 13 of these lines of sight (crosses). Lines of sight with detected [C II] emission are marked by circles, weak detections are indicated by dotted circles
