Flare Stars and Proxima Centauri
(Perth 1987 - 1988)
For my honours research project Flare Stars - Photoelectric
Observations and Theory during my final (i.e. fourth) year of
physics studies, I interfaced a photometer to a computer and developed
all the required driving and data reduction software. I implemented
this photoelectric system on telescopes at Perth Observatory in the
observation and study of faint flare stars, showing that the flare
activity of Proxima Centauri had not changed significantly over the
last 20 years
(Kroupa,
Burman & Blair 1989).
