BUSCA is a CCD camera system - based on three dichroic beam splitters and four large area detectors (6cmx6cm) - which allows simultaneous direct imaging of the same area of sky in four colors. The dichroics devide the full visual window such (at 440nm, 540nm, 730nm) that standard astronomical intermediate-band filter systems can be used. The optics are designed for a f/8 beam and 4Kx4K CCDs with 15micron pixels covering a field of view of 12arcmin x 12arcmin at a 2m class telescope. BUSCA will become a user instrument at the 2.2m telescope of the Calar Alto observatory .

The CRAB NEBULA was observed during a test run in November 1998 at the 1m telescope of the Hoher List observatory. 2Kx2K CCD's were used giving a field of view of 7arcmin x 7arcmin. All four images were taken simultaneously (exposure time: 60 min). Three images (Ha, Hb, O[II]) show line emission from ionized gas blown away by the supernova explosion. The emission seen in the NIR (visual near infrared) broad band image is mainly due to synchrotron radiation.

The BUSCA project was realized by the Sternwarte and by the Radioastronomical Institute (Univ. Bonn) together with the Sternwarte Bamberg (Univ. Erlangen Nürnberg) with financial support through the Verbundforschung Astrophysik of the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (05 2BN114 4).
