Simulations

N-body simulations of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC)

The Magellanic Clouds and the Milky Way form the nearest ensemble of interacting galaxies. In my diploma thesis I focused on the dynamical evolution of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and its dependence on the external interactions with the Milky Way, the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), and finally the influence of ram pressure on the gaseous disk. It was not aimed to reproduce all observed features of the Magellanic System, but to investigate the effects of the interactions on the LMC.

The Ising Model and the method of Finite Size Scaling

On this page you will find a thesis essay on the Ising Model and the method of Finite Size Scaling using Monte Carlo methods. I've taken an Ising system of lattice size 20x20 and 50x50 and performed measurements of quantities like magnetization, specific heat and magnetic susceptibility. In addition I had a closer look at the critical region and determined the critical temperature and some critical exponents using the method of Finite Size Scaling.
