Mobility Programme
Aims
The collaboration of researchers working at different institutes is
one of the central aims of this Priority Programme. Many of the PhD
students and postdocs that will be employed under this Programme or be
involved otherwise with its scientific projects will therefore
collaborate with scientists from other institutes. Therefore, young
researchers should have the opportunity to spend time at other
institutes. This will strongly enhance the collaboration which is the
central structural measure of this Priority Programme. In fact, the
mobility of young researchers shall be strongly encouraged, as it
increases not only the scientific efficiency but also the training
aspects.
Rules and implementation
- If a trip is planned under this item, a short (say, 10 -- 20 lines) request should be send by e-mail to spp@astro.uni-bonn.de, which will then be approved (or otherwise, if it seems not to fit into the SPP; in such cases the colleagues from the advisory panelwould be contacted).
- Forms needed for the reimbursement are on the Web page (right side of this page). These filled-out forms, together with the necessary receipts, should be snail-mailed to
Peter Schneider
Argelander Institut für Astronomie
Universitaet Bonn
Auf dem Huegel 71
D-53121 Bonn, Germany
together with a 1/2-page report about the trip
- For the report, a latex-template is on the web as well (right sid of this page). This report is needed to demonstrate to the DFG (and the referees in the next round) that the money was spent appropriately, and that the mobility fund has served its purpose, namely to promote interaction between groups.
- The form for reimbursement will not be forwarded without the corresponding report.
Observation Programme
Aims
In order to simplify the organization of visits to observatories where
observing time was granted through a peer review process,
the corresponding travel grants will be organized within
the Priority Programme, instead of individual proposals to the DFG
directly. Whereas this implies an additional administrative burden on
the Coordinator, the gain in flexibility and a less formalized
procedure is worth the effort and in addition eases the work of the
DFG.
Rules and implementation
Same as for the mobility funds above:
- Brief request with explanation, using the form on the web
- Reimbursement after a report from the trip
Guest Programme
Aims
A lively programme such as the one funded here requires the possibility
to invite (international) guests, for collaborations, exchange of
ideas, and colloquia. The Priority Programme offers the opportunity
for a coordinated guest programme, whereby efficient use is made of
funds.
Rules and implementation
Two different schemes for the guest programme will be implemented
from now on:
- A foreign guest already in Germany/Austria for a longer stay can be
invited for a visit and/or colloquium at another participating
institute. The PP will pay the travel between institutes and the
accomodation at the inviting location. Rules:
- Propose such a guest trip to spp
- On approval, go ahead.
- Reimbursement as for the other schemes above, with a little report
of the purpose and result of the visit (can in some cases be as short
as: X was invited from A to B to give a colloquium at B)
- A guest who you would like to invite for some time, say between one
week and one month. This guest is very welcome to visit also other
participating institutes, e.g. for giving a colloquium. In this case,
the following rules apply:
- Write a 1-2 page application for the invitation of the guest and
send it to spp.
- Once every 2 to 3 months, the Advisory Panel (Programmemausschuss)
of the PP will evaluate these applications and inform the
applicants about the outcome. Criteria for the selection (assuming
that the request is larger than the available funds) will include
scientific purpose of the visit, seniority of guest, planned
visits to additional institutes, availability of alternative funding
(i.e., in case of two equally good proposal, the less funded
group/institute will get a bonus), etc.
- The host is responsible for planning the trip, including the
visits of the guest to other institutes and reimbursement of
the guest. At the end of the visit, the host is payed back from
the University of Bonn. Also here we should have the visit of the
guest documented in a brief report.
