Title: The Milky Way Dwarf Spheroidals in MOND

Date: Tuesday 26th May

Time: 10:00 - 10:30

Presentation file: talk_Angus.pdf

Abstract:

The newly measured line of sight velocity dispersions of the Milky Way dwarf spheroidals as a function of radius allows extremely constraining tests of MOND. The only variable except the M/L is the velocity anisotropy and the dynamics are severly constrained by the Milky Way’s influence. Using remarkably similar velocity anisotropies, the fits to the velocity dispersions are better in MOND than fits achieved with a dark matter halo with more than double the free parameters that vary from dwarf to dwarf.
