Abstract:

I will review the evidence in favour and against the hypothesis that ultra- compact dwarf galaxies originate from star-cluster complexes created in the tidal tails of galaxy mergers. I will discuss whether as such, UCDs may be intimately linked to the formation of tidal dwarf galaxies.
