Spectrophotometry

The D I V A satellite aims at a sky survey to obtain global astrometry and low resolution spectrophotometry of stars down to about 15th mag in the V-band.

Spectrophotometry will be obtained for about 10 million stars, including UV-photometry in two channels adjacent to the Balmer jump. . The spectrophotometry will be used to derive surface temperatures, surface gravities and metallicities of the stars as well as the extinction toward the star. These parameters will be derived in an automated way.

The spectrophotometry package of the D I V A-project will be the responsability of the following groups:
=> Sternwarte, Univ. Bonn  (SUB), Coordinator K.S. de Boer
=> Inst. for Astron. and Astrophys. Tübingen (IAAT)
=> Remeis Sternwarte Bamberg (DRS)
=> DLR Inst. Planetenerkundung Adlershof (DLRA)
=> Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam (AIP)
=> Thüringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg (TLS)

Approximately 30 individual spectral elements will be available between about 3000 and 10.000 Angström. Given this spectral resolution, the resulting stellar parameters will have accuracies of roughly 20-40% in T, of 0.3 to 0.6 in log g. This ultimately will allow to select stars of specific categories relavant for further studies in an easy manner from the final DIVA database.

In order to develop the method to arrive at the desired parameters, data available in the literature are used. We will let observed, absolute calibrated spectra run through the DIVA-simulation software, and produce the DIVA science frames. From these we will read the data to be used to retrieve the stellar parameters.
