Lecture 12b of the MSc course Radio Astronomy held in Leiden on 6 Dec 2006

O. Wucknitz [1]

Abstract

This is a short introduction to some aspects of gravitational lensing in the context of radio astronomy. I discuss the idea, the basic image configurations and astrophysical applications of lensing by galaxies. As an example I present the case of B0218+357. I also briefly discuss lensing by clusters of galaxies. Microlensing, weak lensing and some other aspects are not mentioned.

The lecture is given by Richard Schilizzi and a number of guest lecturers.
