Phases referencing and faint radio sources

Lecture 12a of the MSc course Radio Astronomy held in Leiden on 6 Dec 2006

O. Wucknitz [1]

  1. JIVE, NL

Abstract

This is a short introduction to phases in radio interferometry, including the different sources of phase disturbances and methods to correct for them. Self-calibration can be used for strong sources, but phase referencing is needed to detect faint radio sources. I briefly present a number of deep-field radio surveys.

The lecture is given by Richard Schilizzi and a number of guest lecturers.
