Selected applications of general relativity in astrophysics
Lecture course held at the
AIfA, University of Bonn, winter semester 2011/12.
O. Wucknitz [1]
- AIfA, Bonn, Germany
Abstract
This lecture gives an introduction into the fundamentals of general relativity. Based on that we will discuss some of the aspects of GR that are relevant for astrophysics. This includes black holes and gravitational waves. Cosmology is the subject of other lectures and will not be covered in detail.
The main goal of this lecture is a good understanding of the concepts and their consequences. Formal mathematics will be emphasised less, but used as a tool.
This lecture takes place Thursday 10:15-11:45 (16:00 on 26th Jan!) in room
0.008 at the Argelander-Institut
für Astronomie. Note that there is no exam and that no credit points can be earned for the MSc program.
The following table gives an overview over the parts that have been discussed
in the sessions. It will be updated continuously.
