This site containt information on a project to build a bolometer array data reduction, analysis, and handling software package, the Bolometer data Analysis (BoA) Project.
Line 8: Line 7:
This new software shall be used for data obtained with the bolometer arrays at the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment (APEX) telescope, at the IRAM 30m telescope and at the Heinrich-Herz Telescope (HHT). BoA shall include most of the functionalities of the current reduction packages MOPSI and NIC, in a programming environment which is easier to modify, maintain, and re-use. Unlike the current packages, BoA shall naturally interface with an observation management and calibration database, and it shall aide well in hardware commissioning and debugging. BoA is a newly designed software package for the reading, handling, and analysis of bolometer array data. Its design and implementation is a collaborative effort of scientist at the MPIfR, AIfA and AIRUB that was started in 2002. The primary goal of BoA is to handle data from LABOCA at APEX, both for online visualization and offline processing. BoA can also be used to process data acquired with other instruments such as ASZCa at APEX or MAMBO at the IRAM 30-meter telescope. BoA includes most of the relevant functionalities of the current reduction packages (MOPSIC, NIC, SURF). The major difference to them is that BoA is written in a programming environment that is easier to modify, maintain, and re-use. Moreover, BoA naturally interface with APECS and the MBfits format.

Documentation

You can find a pdf containing the current documentation ( attachment:Boa_boaman_v1.7.pdf )

New: If you want to make a quick check of your additions to the documentation without waiting for the Doxygen version to appear on the Wiki, you can use the file boa_master_doc_part1-2.tex (now on the cvs) to make your own test version of Parts 1 and 2 only (simply latex this file (pdflatex) after adding your new tex files to it). However, please make sure you also add your new tex files to the boa_master_doc.tex file before you upload your changes to the cvs...that way your changes will also be included in the pdf that appears on the Wiki!!

When writing new material for the documentation, please use the same format as the existing chapters, in particular for your comment blocks.

New: If you want to include any examples, there is now an environment you can use called myexample. You can see myexample used in the Detailed User chapter (ch.5). Just add the example material you wish to include between the \begin{myexample} and \end{myexample}.

New: 10.07.06: If you come across anything in the BoA scripts which is not clearly documented please add the comment #clarifyme! somewhere nearby. That way someone will be able to easily search the scripts and update any unclear or missing documentation.

Installation FAQ

If you have problems with the installation of BoA, you should first have a look to the [:Boa/Installation:Installation FAQ].

Quick User Guide

You can find a [:Documentation/Boa Quick User Guide:Quick User Guide] to help user to reduce their data

White Board

There is also a [:Documentation/Boa White Board:White Board] where you can simply collect information about BoA.

  • BoA is in part financed by a Verbundforschung grant by the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF) to the MPIfR and AIRUB to build LABOCA, a large bolometer array facility camera for APEX.
