There is reason to celebrate: The Cluster of Excellence ‘Our Dynamic Universe’, applied for by the Department of Astronomy, as a collaboration between the Argelander Institute for Astronomy, the 1st Physics Institute of the University of Cologne, the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR, Bonn), the Research Centre Jülich (FZJ), the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) has been approved. Our institutional cooperation partners at the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA), the SKA France/Extreme Computing Lab for Astronomical Telescopes and the Centre de Donne ́es astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS) are delighted with us.

This means that the University of Bonn now has 8 Clusters of Excellence, three of which are located in the Physics and Astronomy department. The previous cluster ‘Matter and Light for Quantum Information (ML4Q)’ was confirmed for further funding in the excellence review.

‘We are delighted that our funding application, ’Our Dynamic Universe", has been successfully approved. This is an important milestone for our research at the Argelander Institute for Astronomy and will provide us with crucial support in advancing our scientific goals in the coming years," says Professor Dr. Cristiano Porciani, project lead at AIfA.
