"Stories of Discovery in Astronomy"
The desire to discover something new in the starry sky has always motivated astronomers to make great efforts. The history of astronomy is full of wonderful, but sometimes also quirky discoveries, such as the discovery of a colossal artwork on the moon.
The lecture will discuss some of these discovery stories.
Dr. Michael Geffert, retired from the Argelander-Institut and he now heads the Birtzberg Observatory – a virtual observatory for the scientific analysis of historical photographic plates, interdisciplinary astronomy projects, and educational events.
