The Cluster of Excellence "DYNAVERSE - Our Dynamic Universe" was officially started with an inauguration event on 20th January 2026, hosted at the University of Cologne.
Celebratory speaches given by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch (Rector of the University of Bonn), Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee (Rector of the University of Cologne), as well as the DYNAVERSE spokes persons Prof. Dr. Stefanie Walch-Gassner (University of Cologne) and Prof. Dr. Cristiano Porciani (University of Bonn).
The around 200 invited guests were welcomed to the event by an interactive exhibition on DYNAVERSE-topics, including a VR display of the building site of the new CCAT-prime / FYST telescope on the in the Atacama desert, a show in a mobile planetarium and a LEGO model of the ALMA interferometer, developed at AIfA.
DYNAVERSE has received 7 years of funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and aims to deepen our understanding of the dynamic evolution of our Universe. Collaborators involved are the Argelander Institute for Astronomy (AIfA), the 1st Physics Institute of the University of Cologne, the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn (MPIfR), the Research Centre Jülich (FZJ), the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS), as well as cooperation partners at the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA), the SKA France/Extreme Computing Lab for Astronomical Telescopes and the Centre de Donne ́es astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS).
